Quantum Computer Systems for Scientific Discovery

چکیده
The great promise of quantum computers comes with the dual challenges building them and finding their useful applications. We argue that these two should be considered together, by codesigning full-stack computer systems along applications in order to hasten development potential for scientific discovery. In this context, we identify community needs, opportunities, a sampling few use case studies, significant science over next 2–10 years. The Computer-Aided Discovery of Scientific Knowledge
In this paper, we review AI research on computational discovery and its recent application to the discovery of new scientiic knowledge. We characterize ve historical stages of the scientiic discovery process , which we use as an organizational framework in describing applications. We also identify ve distinct steps during which developers or users can innuence the behavior of a computational di...
متن کاملStudying scientific discovery by computer simulation.
BACON is a computer program that simulates some of the important processes of scientific discovery. When provided with data about temperatures before and after two substances are brought into contact, the program infers the concept of specific heat and arrives at Black's law of temperature equilibrium. Comparison of BACON's discovery methods with historical records of Black's work casts light o...
متن کاملComputer Modeling of Scientific and Mathematical Discovery Processes
Just forty years ago, in Chicago, John von Neumann delivered the eighteenth Josiah Willard Gibbs Lecture. His topic was the ergodic theorem and statistical mechanics. Within a month of that occasion, he and his colleague, Oscar Morgenstern, published their seminal work, The theory of games and economic behavior, applying discrete mathematics to problems of bargaining and competition in economic...
متن کاملScientific Discovery Learning with Computer Simulations of Conceptual Domains
Scientific discovery learning is a highly self-directed and constructivistic form of learning. A computer simulation is a type of computer-based environment that is very suited for discovery learning, the main task of the learner being to infer, through experimentation, characteristics of the model underlying the simulation. In this article we give a review of the observed effectiveness and eff...
